Walking into Frankie & Johnnie’s in Rye, we felt like we should be wearing three-button pinstripe suits with suspenders. Maybe it was the frosted glass doors. Or maybe it was the leather-bound books in the library-like lounge. Or maybe it was the skylight, the mahogany bar, or the guys in suits talking about recent business deals. Whatever it was, it had a ’90s Wall Street, Gordon Gekko-type of feel—and we didn’t hate it. It was the perfect after-work, I’m-so-stressed-let’s-get-a-drink place. And the drinks you’ll get, well, damn, they’ll wash that stress right away. We sipped—though we would have preferred to chug, but this is a classy joint—a spicy Dirty Martini made with jalapeños (and, since we were feeling greedy, we requested blue-cheese olives as the garnish). And sipping that cocktail had us believing that “greed, for lack of a better word, is good.”
