If you were driving by the Croton Dam last week, you might have noticed some trucks and stage equipment—maybe even seen some celebrities. That’s because FOX’s The Following, starring Kevin Bacon, filmed its season finale this week, and if you tune in you might see the dam and other parts of Westchester.
The Following is not the only production to film in Westchester recently: The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire are some other notable shows filmed here as part of a county-wide film boom spanning the last couple years. According to the Westchester County Film Office, inquiries from production companies about filming in the county were up from 121 in 2011 to more than 400 in 2014, with 70 productions being filmed in the county. Westchester’s beautiful parks, historic streets and buildings, and proximity to New York City make it a prime choice for crews (recent cult-like animal sacrifices probably didn’t hurt its chances with the The Following, either, given that the show centers on tracking down a serial killer cult leader), and local businesses stand to benefit when big productions come to town.

Productions shot in Westchester have also won critical acclaim, with several Emmys being awarded to shows filmed in the county like The Good Wife and Orange is the New Black.
If you want to catch the season three finale of The Following, check your local listings and tune in on May 18 for the two-hour special.
And by the way? You’re now guaranteed to win any game of six degrees of Kevin Bacon regarding anything Westchester-related with this knowledge. You’re welcome.
