Grab your mitts, Hudson Valley — it’s time to play ball!
On Monday, the Rockland Boulders (56-40) clinched the division title for the first time in franchise history, a well-deserved victory after three fruitless seasons since the Pomona-based team’s establishment in 2011.
The championship series, in which the Boulders will try to claim the best of seven games against the New Jersey Jackals (55-41), kicks off tonight at Yogi Berra Stadium in Monclair, N.J. The Boulders return to Provident Bank Park on Friday and Saturday, where they’ll host games three and four, respectively.
The team, which is part of the independent Canadian-American League, can credit some of its superstar players for a successful year. In July, first baseman Jerod Edmondson broke the all-time Can-Am record for career hits (700). A month later, Antone DeJesus was named Can-Am Defensive Player of the Year, joining fellow outfielder Ryan Stovall and Edmondson on the All-Star Team. Even Manager Jamie Keefe nabbed the honor of Manager of the Year — his second with the league.
A big crowd is anticipated for the games this weekend; postseason tickets are available here. The first 1,000 fans that purchased a $14 infield box or home plate box seat receive free “Bould in Blue” T-shirts; “Boulders Thundersticks” will be given to the first 750 fans of each home game. Fireworks, parties, beer specials, and music will also be part of the festivities. Click here for more details on entertainment and giveaways.
