Find Your Soul At SoulCycle

Working out isn’t just about looking good, it’s about feeling good, and SoulCycle helps you do just that.

When you think of candlelight, do you picture a romantic evening at your favorite restaurant, enjoying a hot bath while you sip champagne? How about doing a high-intensity cardio workout? If you’ve never imagined that third option, you’re in for a treat. SoulCycle is a new form of indoor cycling that is changing the fitness game. For 45 minutes, you spin to the beat of music, and with the help of the encouraging words of your instructors, you find yourself not only energized, but inspired.

We caught up with SoulCycle instructor Monique Berarducci, who teaches in Bronxville and New York City, and she told us everything you need to know about this popular (and effective!) workout.

Q: What exactly is SoulCycle?

A: SoulCycle is a 45-minute full-body workout. Riders engage in high-intensity cardio (burning between 500 and 700 calories), while also toning their upper bodies using hand weights and core-engaging choreography.

Q: What should people expect during a class?

A: The SoulCycle experience is high-energy, results-oriented, and community-based. The exercise program focuses on rhythm and the “energy of the pack,” which creates a strong bond between riders. SoulCycle classes are held in candlelit studios, making riders feel like they are partying in a healthy nightclub. The dark, non-intimidating rooms allow riders to lose themselves in the workout. Rides take place to one-of-a-kind playlists with instructors who are inspirational coaches, pushing riders to do their best on and off the bike.

A: SoulCycle classes in Westchester cost $34, but your first ride is only $20! Call the studio to book at this rate.

Q: Is the equipment I need supplied for me?

A: Yes! Shoes and water are available at the front desk.

Q: Do you have any advice for beginners?

A: Introduce yourself to the instructor prior to class to tell them you are new; they will love it! Take the class at your own pace, listen to the beats in the music, and don’t expect perfection. Just have a good time.

Q: What audience does SoulCycle target?

A: SoulCycle is for everyone: men, women, athletes, first-time exercisers—our youngest rider is 12 years old and our oldest is 80!

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching a class?

A: No matter what kind of day you are having, the music will always move you. I love to inspire people with songs that can get them running, dancing, singing, and feeling motivated to have a great day.

Q:What are some of the different classes offered at SoulCycle?

A: SoulCycle: Our signature SoulCycle ride is indoor cycling re-invented. With inspirational coaching, rock-star music, and a full-body workout (we’ve added hand weights and core work!), this 45-minute class will transform the way you look and feel.

SoulSurvivor: A special 60-minute SoulCycle class. It’s amazing what an extra 15 minutes can do. A little more challenge, a little more sweat, a lot more SOUL.

Community Ride: Come take a class on us and cheer on our newest Soul rock-stars! Sign-up Monday at noon online, no series required.

SoulChallenge: For our hardcore riders who want to double up, now’s your chance! Push up, tap back, and rock out in our 90-minute cardio party.

Soul Warrior: Ever dream of being on the instructor podium? You might just get picked to take a turn leading the pack.

SoulTeen: We have modified our signature ride with instruction and music tailored just for teens! Must be 4’11” and 12 years old to ride. Parents must attend the first class in order to sign a waiver.

Q: Why choose SoulCycle?

A: I have never been able to do one form of exercise and feel the way I do every day that I ride. It’s 45 minutes in a dark room with like-minded people all striving towards the betterment of themselves. It’s total body, total mind, all soul.
