Find a Taste of the Old Country at This European Market in Hartsdale

Take a European culinary journey — without leaving Westchester — to G&G Euro Market.

From German spätzle to Irish teas, you’ll likely find your Euro food-fix at George Zadrima and his sister-in-law Jozefina Zadrima’s new Hartsdale market opened in June. (George also owns a G&G in Yorktown Heights; that store has a café). The family is of Albanian descent, and George saw an opportunity to reach the large number of Albanians in both northern and lower Westchester. But they didn’t limit their reach to just those customers — delicacies and staples from 15 countries and counting are found in the stores.

Entering the new Hartsdale location, with approximately 1,000 square feet of space, is, as Jozefina puts it, “like taking a little tour of Europe.” The aisles are filled with Italian breadsticks, Turkish cheeses, and even Russian ketchup. There’s a refrigerated case with all manner of feta cheese, a meat case with dried sausage, and stellar homemade desserts and bureks — phyllo pastries filled with either meat, cheese, or spinach. And you can sip a Turkish coffee while taking in the sights.

“I love introducing customers to foods that are unfamiliar to them,” says Jozefina. She also notes that “it’s the best feeling in the world” when customers come in and rediscover a food they loved in their childhood and haven’t been able to find in the US.
