Stepping into At Land in Dobbs Ferry (75 Main St), you’re likely to feel tranquil and grounded — which is totally intentional. Owner and Tarrytown resident Melissa Lauprete wanted to create a space where shoppers could unwind and feel good about themselves, so there is no WiFi connection to distract you or jeans sold to make you self-conscious about your body. The 1,600 sq. ft. space provides a modern retail experience, selling unique items like rose quartz stones ($.50), handmade dresses ($700), and custom furniture ($8,000). Lauprete carefully curates all the products at At Land — which can be among the first in the country to carry certain products and designers — and feels that possessions are meaningful extensions of ourselves. “When items you wear, use, or put in your home or on your body are thought through, in terms of design, function, health, efficacy, and then made with care,” she says, “you feel and see the difference, you enjoy them more or longer, and the benefit stays with you.”
