Fashion Mega-Chain Zara Opens Its Doors In Yonkers

We’ve been anticipating the opening of Cross County’s Zara location for a while now, and our patience has been rewarded at last: the Spain-originating, now global, fast-fashion mega-chain debuted quietly last Thursday, across from the outdoor Yonkers mall’s H&M and Forever 21, and close to its Macy’s anchor; with 25,000 square feet of its urban-modern apparel distributed between two levels.

Moderately priced relative to comparable designer looks, Zara isn’t cheap, per se, but a cost-compromise for fashion-y types seeking trend pieces that look higher-quality. Besides a vast range of oft-changing women’s wear (their “Woman” line for work/play, plus casual basics like well-cut tees and tanks), the new store carries design-conscious men’s and kids’ clothes, as well as “it”-inspired bags and shoes.

The brand’s only branch in Westchester (the next closest is Greenwich, or, for southern-county dwellers, Manhattan), I’m interested to see how much traffic it brings from locals willing to shell out a bit more than required by most of the other retailers in the shopping center—which is gunning for a broader population with gradual additions like a Chipotle, fro-yo spot, and Hyatt Place hotel opening in 2015.
