EpicLight Beauty Offers Top-Tier Skincare in Westchester

Two local moms from Rye and Greenwich founded EpicLight Beauty, a makeup company with lightweight products that prioritize your skin's well-being.

When you walk into any makeup store, most of the product advertising is Gen Z-coded, with ads displaying flawless-faced models in their mid to late 20s. As makeup consumers get younger, it can become increasingly challenging for women above 35 to find makeup products that cover blemishes while also benefiting their skin.

Two local moms decided to take matters into their own hands and formulate a skincare brand that prioritizes your skin’s well-being while giving you the “no-makeup” makeup look. EpicLight Beauty offers middle-aged women a new approach to skincare, kicking traditional beauty standards to the side by offering makeup products with anti-aging properties. The brand currently offers three makeup products that are available online and in Dr. Anetta Reszko’s office in Rye.

Longtime friends Saima Rathor and Patricia Gallardo met 15 years ago outside of their children’s preschool and initially bonded over the decision to take a step away from their bustling careers. Gallardo, who has a background in product development for cosmetic brands, and Rathor, who worked in investment banking, had one overwhelming shared interest – beauty products. Once their kids got older, the moms took a leap of faith by starting a beauty business. The brand began taking shape in 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic, and their first product launched in October 2022.

“Our age group in particular wasn’t being recognized in the beauty industry. It always gears towards the teens to 20-year-olds,” says Gallardo.

As the duo began nearing 40 (what some would call middle-aged), they set out to flip the switch on beauty norms for women by crafting a brand that aids the skin in its aging process. Each product is made with high-grade active ingredients that you would find in high-end skincare and without any toxins.

“We knew that the makeup products we wanted to use, we also wanted to benefit our skin because our skin is changing as well,” says Rathor.

The three products available are the Never Settle Radiant Cheek & Lip Blush, Lip Flip Treatment, and Plump & Blush Radiant Duo. The lightweight blush hydrates and plumps the skin with hyaluronic acid, avocado oil, and sea fennel extract. The lip flip gives your lips a nice plump without irritation, while helping to eliminate wrinkles over time. While each item earns a noteworthy addition to your effortless day-to-day makeup routine, they can also play a crucial role in your skin’s longevity.

“One of the first signs of aging is you lose color in your cheeks and your cheeks begin to sag, and your lips become thinner and wrinkled,” notes Gallardo.

With this in mind, Rathor and Gallardo created their products to address the issues women have with aging in hopes of sparking conversation and offering a solution. Women in the community have rallied behind them by purchasing their products, giving positive feedback, and attending an event they held last spring called “Hot Flash.” They invited a local doctor from Rye, esthetician Jennifer Adell, and renowned makeup artist Erica Taylor to the panel to discuss the changes in women’s bodies both mentally and physically.

“All the women were just so happy to talk about a subject that doesn’t really get spoken about. They embraced this new trend to talk about the changes in your body and skin,” acknowledges Gallardo.

Through the power of makeup and self-care, Gallardo and Rathor are capturing the essence of community of middle-aged women with a portion of their proceeds going to the Society of Women’s Health. Additionally, their Never Settle Radiant Cheek & Lip Blush was featured in the Grammys gift bag and will be in the Oscars gift bags this March. The continued recognition and support are solidifying their growth, which they hope to amplify with additional events and more products.
