It’s not just proactive individuals and businesses who are spurring innovation locally. Government is in on the action, too. In March, County Executive George Latimer officially announced the launch of Element 46, a county-based incubator that will provide valuable advice and mentorship in key areas pertaining to the success of local startup businesses. Assistance will range from seed funding, marketing, and legal assistance to accounting services, technical assistance, and even office space.
Element 46 will have 15 fledgling entrepreneurs in place and seated at three or four coworking sites throughout Westchester by early summer. According to Gibbons, who spoke with 914INC. in March, “We hope to have the entrepreneurs selected and at their desks, being incubated, by July.”
According to Latimer, the program will help turn promising ideas into thriving businesses and promote entrepreneurship and economic development in Westchester. Upon announcing the program, he said, “Westchester has all of the most important ingredients for start-up success — location, infrastructure, transportation, business expertise, investor interest, talent, and more. By bringing together the very best entrepreneurial ideas and supporting them with the immense talent and resources of this County, I’m confident that we’ll be able to cultivate high-growth companies that will drive economic development for Westchester.”
