Eastchester Farmers’ Market Comes to Town

The market will run every Sunday through October 15.

Eastchester has some of the county’s best burgers, pizza, and sandwiches, but there’s one thing the town has never had: its own farmers’ market. But that all changed on June 4, when Sam Friedman launched the 20-vendor Eastchester Farmers’ Market in the parking lot of her father’s store, Country Markets (344 White Plains Rd). “I’ve had the opportunity to meet the producers of a lot of products that we carry,” says Friedman. “I’d been thinking it would be remarkable if the community of Eastchester had the same opportunity.”

The market, which will run every Sunday through October 15 (10 a.m.–3 p.m.), promises bread from Bien Cuit, the famed Brooklyn bakery, which was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2017; honey from Hudson River Apiaries in Verplanck; fresh produce and eggs from Deep Roots Farm in Hudson and Growing Heart Farm in Pawling; organic baked goods (including gluten-free and vegan selections) from Irvington’s Red Barn Bakery; Kosher pickles and spreads from Picklelicious out of Teaneck, NJ; and award-winning organic cheeses from Vermont’s Consider Bardwell; along with fresh seafood, humanely raised meats, pastries, and even skincare products.

“People seem really excited,” says Friedman, who hopes that direct access to purveyors will start a conversation about food-health education. “It’s really important to know the trail behind your food and the hard work that goes into what you’re eating.”
