Westchester golfers have always made Hilton Head Island a favorite golf destination and Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is one of the standout island facilities where they can be sure of challenging golf, comfortable accommodations, and loads of activities for your non-golf hours.
Three of the world’s best architects designed the top-notch golf courses at Palmetto Dunes.
The Robert Trent Jones course is an open, wind-swept layout with wide fairways, challenging bunkers, and one of the most striking oceanfront holes on the island, the par-five tenth. The toughest hole on the course is the fourteenth, a 411-yard par-four with water along the entire dog-leg right fairway and an “L” shaped green that will set your teeth on edge.
The Arthur Hills course doesn’t just reward accuracy—it demands it. The rolling layout features numerous water hazards and thick stands of ball-grabbing palmettos. The 507-yard par-five thirteenth hole exemplifies the challenges of the course, with a forced carry over water off the tee and more water in front of the green.
Perhaps the toughest of the three is the par-70 George Fazio course. A seemingly endless string of long par fours and tiny greens call for top execution of all parts of your game. The 210-yard par-three seventeenth hole requires a long, accurate shot over water to the center of the green, making it one of the finest tests of good shot-making on the island.

Incidentally, not a trace of damage from last year’s hurricane can be found on the three Palmetto Dunes golf courses.
Palmetto Dunes sits in the middle of Hilton Head Island with three miles of Atlantic Ocean beach on one side and an Intracoastal Waterway marina on the other. Its 2,000 acres include the three excellent golf courses, tennis center, an 11-mile inland saltwater lagoon for kayaking and fishing, bike rentals, and numerous on-property restaurants.
Several value-driven “Stay and Play” packages are available right now. One of the best is the Birdies and Beer Getaway Package that includes four days/three nights in a two-bedroom villa, three rounds of golf, breakfast and beers, and even two hours of court time at the tennis center for $180/per person based on four-person occupancy.
