Golf isn’t just about whacking the ball around the pasture… it’s really meant to have a large element of fun. Which is exactly what drives the activities at Doral Golf Club in Rye Brook.
This week, the season officially opens at Doral with a Saint Patrick’s Day Tournament on Friday, March 17. It’s a friendly, individual format, 9 hole tournament on Doral’s par 35 course. Your entry fee of $40 includes the event, golf cart, and even a beer in The Pub afterward. You can tee off anytime during the day to post your score and there will be prizes for net, gross, and closest to the pin.
Groups are welcome, of course, and The Pub will feature corned beef and cabbage as well as soda bread….and probably a little beer.

The Doral doesn’t stop providing fun events after opening day, either. Also on tap this year is a Twilight Golf League with a schedule of individual and team events on eight consecutive Mondays at 5:30 PM. The league will play a different format every week and prizes will be awarded to the winners. It’s a perfect way to relax and enjoy nine holes with old and new friends after work or school.
The league starts play on Monday, April 24. You must register before April 20, however, and slots are filling fast. The fee is $320 and includes eight 9-hole rounds, golf cart, and prizes.
The best way to sign up for either event is to call Ralph Garofano, PGA Professional, at 914-323-4478.
