In anticipation of his trunk show at Neiman Marcus in White Plains this Friday and Saturday (10 am to 6 pm) (the trunk show is over, but the giveaway still lives!), couture handbag designer Anthony Luciano is giving one lucky fan a chance to rock one of his bespoke luxury pieces—on the house.
And these aren’t the identical “It” bags you see lugged around by every Hollywood starlet and wannabe socialite. Luciano’s wares, from buttery python hobos to ornate, vintage-clasped clutches, are master-crafted with the skills he learned first from artisan parents (his mother, a seamstress, and father, an Old-World carpenter), who instilled in him an eye for delicate handiwork and beautiful detail.
“Italians are known for their craftsmanship, and it’s in my blood,” the designer has said.
Like a painter or sculptor, Luciano’s personal relationship to his work is paramount. His signature, a penny stitched into the pocket of every bag, is an Italian tradition that represents prosperity and good fortune—a symbol of affection, and a gift from the maker to clients.
Nominated for Accessory Designer of the Year by Fashion Group International, Luciano has been similarly praised by Vogue, InStyle, Elle, and W magazines, as well as by fans like Meryl Streep, Debra Messing, and Cameron Diaz, all of whom have deemed his wares worthy of the red carpet. Carried at department-store havens like Bergdorf’s and, of course, Neiman’s, the collection is also available at specialty boutiques internationally.
