CareMount Medical’s Donna Montalto is so good at consensus-building, she can even bring together Republicans and Democrats: When CareMount’s CEO, Dr. Scott Hayworth, testified before a State Senate committee, members of both parties congratulated him on hiring Montalto, who had worked in Albany as a healthcare lobbyist for many years, crafting legislation and then working to implement it. “I’m known for bringing parties on opposite sides together to compromise,” she says, adding that she helps to find solutions that meet both sides’ needs. “If both sides are a little unhappy, that’s a win.”
That makes sense for a woman who first earned a degree in political science, then added a Masters of Public Policy in health and spent 26 years leading the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, District II, where she developed several women’s-health initiatives for New York State.
In her current role at CareMount, Montalto works to implement the vision of the C-suite team for the 500-provider, 3,400-employee medical group in such areas as communications and marketing. “I am fortunate to have the ability to make change happen,” she says. “That gets me up in morning. Challenges are the way I find excitement.”
