Discovering Downtown New Rochelle

Discovering our Downtowns

Steiner Sports—Does a signed, game-used Derek Jeter Day baseball ($5,000) get your bat in a twirl? Then visit the website of this sports-memorabilia provider, whose corporate headquarters and warehouse are located in downtown.

New Roc City—To fill a gaping hole in the city’s downtown after the New Rochelle Mall shut down in 1995, this residential/retail/entertainment complex that includes a 19-screen Regal Cinemas, bowling alley, and Residence Inn by Marriott, took its place.

Monroe College—Named for President James Monroe, the number of undergrads has grown from seven in its founding year of 1933 to approximately 7,000 across four campuses (including one in St. Lucia!).

Trump Plaza New Rochelle—French doors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an indoor heated swimming pool are a few of the luxe elements at this 39-story apartment building.

Roc-N-Ramen—Choose from four ramen types and slurp your way to a quick, delicious, hot meal at this noodle shop. Look out for the excellent oxtail ramen special.

El Michoacano—Beyond the requisite quesadillas and burritos, this no-frills Mexican eatery offers a few items for intrepid palates: brain, tripe and roasted beef head tacos.

New Rochelle Public Library—Of note at this three-level, 67,000-square-foot library is a robust calendar of events. In 2015, to honor actress Ruby Dee, the library lawn was renamed The Ruby Dee Park at Library Green.

Patrias Restaurant—Barcelona native Mariano Aznar offers ceviche, myriad tapas, four varieties of paella, and an all-Spanish wine list at his 30-seat restaurant.

Halstead New Rochelle Metro North—Views of the Manhattan skyline and the Long Island Sound, a short walk to Metro-North, and a 13,000-square-foot sports club on the 40th floor are some of the draws for renters looking for suburban high-rise living.

Alvin & Friends—A cosmopolitan vibe combines with Southern and Caribbean influenced contemporary cuisine at this classy restaurant co-owned by a former GQ model.

Modern Restaurant & Lounge—A dazzlingly contemporary setting belies the traditional Italian menu replete with pastas, pizzas, and various plates done up parmigiana/marsala/francese-style.

The Little Ranch Boots—A unique find in Westchester, this Western-wear shop carries brands such as Nocona, Stetson, Dan Post Boots, and Wrangler. Yeah, howdy!

Little Mexican Café—A destination for tacos al pastor, skirt steak marinated in chipotle, and signature margaritas since 1990.
