Jewelry often signifies commitment between two people. For one Westchester business, it means commitment to the entire community.
Family-owned D’Errico Jewelry, with locations in Mount Kisco and Scarsdale, specializes in engagement rings and wedding bands — many of which are custom pieces designed by hand and manufactured in-house via 3D-printing technology. Its commitment to philanthropy is paramount to its success. Brothers Sal and Richard D’Errico have been in the jewelry business for more than 30 years and have been donating to the community since they opened their first jewelry store in the Bronx in 1988.
In addition to hosting fundraisers, D’Errico Jewelry creates custom pieces of jewelry for charities — like custom insulin pendants in silver, gold, and diamond options for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to raise awareness for Type I diabetes. The D’Erricos donate all proceeds for these items to the dedicated organizations, which also include Lifting Up Westchester, among others.
The business also started a scholarship fund in 2016 for Lifting Up Westchester, sending a total of 36 underprivileged Westchester children to summer camp so far. Within the next five years, D’Errico Jewelry hopes to double their contribution to JDRF and sponsor up to 100 children’s summer-camp experiences through Lifting up Westchester.
“There are so many who need what we take for granted. We feel it’s a responsibility that goes with being a good person and being in business,” says Sal D’Errico. “It’s just the right thing to do.”
