Music, Words, and Great Food
One has to ask, How do Michael Boriskin and the Board of Trustees of the Copland House do it? Boriskin, Copland House’s affable artistic and executive director, each year manages to throw a fundraising soirée at, well, let’s see—three-Michelin star Le Bernardin, four New York Times star Del Posto, the highly-revered Four Seasons, and three-Michelin star Daniel, which was the site of this year’s event (it was the second time for Daniel). And not only was the food heavenly—you haven’t really had a molten chocolate cake until you’ve had Daniel’s—but so was the music (thanks to mezzo soprano Rachel Calloway, clarinetist Derek Bermel, and Cellist Wilhelmina Smith, among others). And to top it all off? There was wonderfully whimsical narration by Leonard Bernstein’s daughter, Jamie Bernstein. Is it too soon to ask, Where is it going to be next year, Michael?

Fashionable Fundraiser
Heavy winds, rain, and tornado warnings didn’t stop approximately 250 women from attending The Junior League of Westchester’s (JLWOS) fundraiser. Held at the Larchmont Shore Club, the evening included a cocktail and boutique shopping hour plus a fashion show co-hosted by Westchester Magazine Features Editor Laurie Yarnell and JLWOS Member Events Co-Chair Melissa Donahue. “Our goal,” says Donahue, “was to help assist local stores gain business, increase revenues, and stimulate our local economy.” To that end, more than 50 local residents, including four local mayors, strutted their stuff down the runway wearing the latest fashions from more than 20 independent boutiques in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, and Rye Brook. The nearly $20,000 raised will go to support the organization’s community outreach programs, including those focusing on family literacy, empowering immigrant women, and mentoring boys.
