Danny Balin Tops 2017 Westchester Open

Westchester Country Club dominated the leaderboard.

Westchester Country Club was well-represented on the leaderboard of the 2017 Westchester Open played at Wykagyl CC in new Rochelle. Westchester CC assistant pro Danny Ballin came roaring from behind to win the event with a ten-under par performance while James Nicholas, a rising junior at Yale and Westchester CC member, finished as low amateur at three under par, which placed him at eleventh overall.

Right behind Nicholas in twelfth place was Max Buckley and not far was Paul Sevaggio at 25th, both playing out of Westchester CC.

Balin, who joined the staff at WCC this year, carded five birdies over the final nine holes to erase a six-shot deficit behind Fairview CC’s David Pastore and claim the title as well as the $7,200 winner’s check.  This was Balin’s third Westchester Open title since 2010. Pastore had eclipsed the Wykagyl course record on his morning round of the last day of the tournament, firing 63 on the par 72, 6,684-yard course.
