Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Bronxville opened its doors earlier this year to offer an array of classes for dancers at any stage. Whether you’re a couple aiming to perfect your wedding dance, a local seeking a new hobby to boost your emotional and physical well-being, or an experienced dancer eager to elevate your skills, this studio has classes tailored to your needs.
One of the studio’s three dance instructors is Daniil Golyshev, a 23-year-old seasoned ballroom dancer who competes at a professional level. Hailing from Russia, Golyshev’s passion for dance began at an early age and quickly evolved into a lifestyle. With a strong propensity for dance and competition from the age of four, he has spent the past two decades honing his craft, specializing in international Latin style. (His brother, who is also a ballroom dancer, is one of the owners of the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Bronxville and moved to the states six years ago.)
With a lifelong devotion and loyalty to Latin and ballroom programs, he’s earned the title of finalist and winner in numerous competitions throughout Germany, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. He now travels around the tristate area, as well as abroad, following his passion and competing at the highest level.
When asked about his most special ballroom memory, he shares that it’s “becoming a finalist in my home country and in Germany. When you put so much effort into something, it can be hard to believe it when it actually comes true.”
Golyshev began his journey as a dance instructor when he was 17 years old and has been teaching full-time since moving to the United States two years ago. He has a passion for teaching his students and guiding them to their full dance potential and reaching their individual goals.
“I always try to be involved. Every student is an artwork, and dancing is a good hobby both mentally and physically,” Golyshev notes.
He compares the dancing scene in the United States to that of Russia, concluding that results are not always the main goal. Instead, dancing is all about being happy and doing something which brings you joy. He motivates each of his students to enjoy the learning process and pursue their fullest potential.
“[The studio is] a great, friendly environment where dancers can reach their goals,” Golyshev enthuses.
In addition to his achieving great success on the dance floor, Golyshev received his bachelor’s degree in psychology. He notes that this knowledge, when paired with his experience as a professional dancer, helps him support his students on another level that’s not easily replicated.
