Want shinier hair for the holidays — hair that looks great longer between haircuts? A revolutionary tool from Germany, newly offered at NUMI Salon in Rye, promises just that. The salon is the first in Westchester, the second in New York State (the other is in Manhattan) and only the third in the country to offer the Jaguar Thermocut 400 System, or “hot scissors.” Unlike traditional shears, which can open the hair cuticle, creating a rougher, more jagged appearance and more damage to strands, these special scissors seal the ends of the hair and lock in moisture, explains Nuriel Abramov, NUMI’s founder and master stylist. And more moisture means more shine, volume, and elasticity. The result, he says, “is healthier-looking hair with fewer split ends, so haircuts look good longer.” According to Abramov, hot scissors also deliver a cleaner-edged, blunter cut that’s especially good for today’s popular long, straight hairstyles.
The scissors use heated blades with a manual temperature control, to customize the amount required for different hair types. “It’s especially good for weak or thick hair,” says Abramov, “and for those too busy to get to the salon every six weeks.” Because fewer haircuts are required, cuts using this tool are more expensive ($225 to $300, depending upon the stylist) than traditional ones.
