Matryoshka dolls. Vodka. And now, haute couture? Some of the chicest hostesses and most glam guests at elegant events from Armonk and Larchmont to Algiers and London are making their entrances in stunning custom couture gowns created right here in Mount Kisco by the talented Libov Nicoletti. The Russian-born Nicoletti, now a resident of Katonah, started her career fashioning clothing for her dolls in her native country. After attending a professional seamstress training school at 14 to sharpen her sewing skills, she graduated from the Technological Institute of Fashion Design in Belarus in 1987 and went on to design for Russian celebrities and members of royalty. In 2001, Nicoletti realized her dream of moving to New York and after six years working for Manhattan fashion designers, she debuted her Nicoletti Couture and the Nicoletti Collection labels in her own local showroom.
“I love the creative process,” says Nicoletti. “Each new design is like working on a new painting.” All work on her one-of-a-kind, European-inspired gowns, cocktail dresses, and special-occasion suiting is done by hand and often features exquisite embroidery and intricate Austrian crystal beadwork. Fashioned from Indian and Korean silks, Parisian lace, Italian brocades, and English wools in such elegant hues as midnight blue, black, platinum, and cream, designs range from $899 to $5,000 and are available at the 111 East Main Street showroom in Mount Kisco.
