Custom-made fashion comes with an easy-on-the-wallet price tag, thanks to fashion designers April Bukofser (left) of Pound Ridge and Marin Milio (right) of White Plains. The pair, who met in a marketing class during junior year at Pace University in Pleasantville, launched AprilMarin, their online custom-clothing company, five years after their 2002 graduation. “As designers and women, we knew fit was just as important as the design itself,” says Bukofser, “and that no matter the size—a two or a twelve—it’s hard to find fashion that fits perfectly.”
The pair updates classic sartorial staples by adding details like ruffled edges and oversized buttons to the little black dress and balloon sleeves to the skirt suit jacket. Pieces are made of a poly/cotton blend fabric, chosen, says Bukofser, “because of the comfort of the cotton, the form-fitting shape of the polyester, and the fact that it can be worn all year long.”
All styles are designed by Bukofser and Milio and made-to-order in Vietnam. Dresses are $130 to $140; suits $185 plus, and jackets $195 plus. To view the collection, visit aprilmarin.com; allow three weeks for production.
