Step inside the new Dobbs Ferry Brooklyn Market and find a gorgeous, fresh display of produce. There’s fresh-cut, imported cheese; a self-service hot foods bar; sandwiches and salads, either grab-and-go or made-to-order. There’s even a stone-fire pizza oven serving up fresh pies daily. In short, it’s got everything you need for a quick bite or your big weekly shopping run.
With origins in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Market opened its first Westchester location in the huge mixed-use development Rivertowns Square in Dobbs Ferry. Rivertowns Square is also home to the combination iPic Theater/City Perch restaurant complex, a Hilton Garden Inn, and The Learning Experience child development center.
While the market mainly stocks higher-end organic products, you’ll also find mainstream brands available in conventional supermarkets. “It’s like if you took a Whole Foods and a ShopRite and put them in the same building,” says store manager Michael Gomez. “You can get the best of both worlds.”
Brooklyn Market’s business philosophy revolves around direct communication with customers. “Because we’re a smaller-size store, we have the opportunity to really touch base with our customers on a daily basis,” says Gomez. He uses these conversations to gauge what shoppers are and aren’t interested in, and adjusts inventory accordingly. “By having that close relationship with a customer, we can really tailor what we put on our shelves to the local community. And we’ve done so already, even in the first month.”
The market had its soft opening in mid-February. “Just from opening the doors, we are seeing a lot of word-of-mouth business,” says Gomez, “and it’s continuously growing on a week-to-week basis.” The market will hold a Grand Opening on April 7.
