The Chappaqua-based e-commerce business tempts with luxurious, scented candles and soaps made with clean ingredients.
For birthdays, Térron Richardson always requested fragrances, even as a young boy. So, it’s no surprise that Richardson — who owns a “perfume library” boasting more than 20 rotating scents — created luxury scented candles and soaps after a COVID-19-imposed layoff from the home-decor industry. His e-commerce brand, Chandel Atelier, features eco-friendly candles that contain slow-burning coconut wax instead of paraffin, which can contain toxins.
Richardson learned all he could about candle-making from YouTube. He sources wooden wicks, which burn cleaner than traditional cotton wicks, for his candles. His environmentally friendly sulfate-and-paraben-free bar soaps contain moisture-boosting ingredients, such as goat’s milk, shea butter, and flaxseed — perfect for winter’s harshest months.

The new Chappaqua resident found inspiration from the bucolic town when creating Chappaqua 10514, a candle with notes of moss, musk, wet fern, and jasmine. “It’s what I envision spring will be like up here,” he shares. It isn’t the first time he has chosen to develop a candle dedicated to a specific locale: His most popular candle, Anguilla, is named after his birthplace and contains notes of freesia, eucalyptus, linen, and sea salt. Romantics take note: Dark Rose and Persian Nights are his most sultry and seductive candles for your valentine.
Chandel Atelier is available at King’s Scribe and ROCKS in Chappaqua and Jolie Jordan in Mount Kisco.
