Fans of natural and organic food and products in lower Westchester have a reason to cheer now that The Only Mart has opened on Main Street in New Rochelle. Stocked mainly with natural, organic and international items, the store offers a healthy shopping option not previously available in the area. Owner June Lu wants to provide “an alternative of healthy shopping” because she moved to New Rochelle last summer and despaired at the inconvenience of driving into New York City to shop for organic items for her young sons.
The 5,000 sq ft store stocks organic produce and food stuffs, non-GMO, natural and vegan-friendly items including hemp granola, soy and nut cheeses, avocado oil popcorn, probiotic juices, condiments, artisan pasta and sauces from Italy, hard-to-find Asian snacks, housewares, and cosmetics. A bar offers more than 10 kinds of bubble teas and will soon include fresh-pressed juices and wheatgrass shots. There’s a gift section; a vitamin and supplement section is being developed.

The store is named The Only Mart, says Lu, is because it’s “more than organic, a combination of good selections of many different things under one roof.” She keeps prices low by passing on discounts she gets from distributors to encourage consumers to try the products.
Word is getting around. When this writer visited, Alvin Clayton of nearby restaurant Alvin & Friends, and his wife, Gwen, were among those who dropped in to shop, enthusiastic about the offerings and to support a new local business.
