Houlihan Lawrence Names New COO

Serving Houlihan Lawrence for 20 years on the Global Business Development team, Elizabeth Nunan was recently promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer. Nunan’s responsibilities in this new position will be to oversee core operations such as information technology, legal, and global business development. As a licensed broker, Nunan served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Realtors (NAR) from 2006 to 2017. She was on the Board of Directors of the Hudson Gateway MLS from 2014 to 2017. In addition, Nunan was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2016 from the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council. “Liz has the respect and admiration of our agents and the industry,” said Chris Meyers, president of Houlihan Lawrence. “She quite literally has a worldwide reputation. There’s nobody better prepared to help us continue to exceed the expectations of our agents and their clients.”

White Plains Hospital Executive Team Names Chief Information Officer

Rick McCarthy began his role as the new Chief Information Officer at White Plains Hospital on July 30. In his new position, McCarthy will oversee the hospital’s technology platforms and ensure system security and privacy throughout the organization. McCarthy previously served as Chief Information Officer for Ascension Information Services for St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Connecticut; the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia; and the NATO Role 3 Multi-National Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Prior to his work as Chief Information Officer, McCarthy held several Information Technology leadership positions with the United States Military and the Department of Defense. McCarthy received his Bachelor’s Degree in Health Systems Management from the University of Connecticut and earned his Master of Science degree in Technology Management from the University of Maryland.

 

NYMC Welcomes New Chair of the Department of Surgery

Rifat Latifi, MD, FACS, FICS, was named chair of the Department of Surgery last month at New York Medical College, where he also works as a tenured professor of surgery. Dr. Latifi is Director of the Department of Surgery at several of the hospitals in the Westchester Medical Center Health Network including: Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, and MidHudson Regional Hospital. Latifi specializes in general surgery, trauma, and critical care. He established the first teletrauma and telepresence program in Arizona. The Southern Arizona Telemedicine and Telepresence serve patients along the United States and Mexico boarder. Latifi also initiated, severed funding, and provided oversight to three national telemedicine program teams in Europe and Africa. For those efforts, he received the 2015 American College of Surgeons and Pfizer International Surgical Volunteerism award. He has been volunteering as a surgeon in the Philippines since 2006 and serves on the ACS Committee on Global Engagement.

 

Pace University Appoints VP for University Relations

James Sterngold recently joined Pace University as the new Vice President for University Relations. In his new role, Sterngold will be overseeing communications, media, marketing, special events, communications and government affairs, and community relations for Pace University. He previously served at the City University of New York (CUNY) as senior advisor to the chancellor for communications and interim director of communications and marketing. Sterngold was the lead writer on CUNY’s new strategic framework, “Connected CUNY.” His previous work included being a business reporter, foreign correspondent and investigative journalist at publications including, but not limited to, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

NYMC Names Dean of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences.

The new dean of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York has been appointed to Marina Kaufman Holz, Ph.D. Previously, Dr. Holz was the Chair of Biology and Chair of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, at Stern College of Yeshiva University. She earned her Bachelors degree in microbiology and immunology from McGill University and received her Ph.D. at Harvard Medical School for cell and developmental biology. Dr. Holz leads a laboratory studying the mechanisms of signaling by hormones and growth factors in breast cancer as well as a rare disease called lymphangioleiomyomatosis. She works as a peer reviewer for multiple journals and participates in grant review study sections for the NIH, Department of Defense, ACS, LAM Foundation, and many international funding agencies.

 

NYMC appoints Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology

Kelly A. Hutcheson, M.D., M.B.A, has been named chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College. Hutcheson also serves as director of ophthalmology for Westchester Medical Center Health Network. Previously, Hutcheson served as chief of ophthalmology at Sidra Medical and Research Center and Weill Cornell School of Medicine in Qatar. At Sidra, Dr. Hutcheson’s focus was on humanitarian work; she led a 30-person team performing medical and surgical outreach in the Dominican Republic. She partnered with Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) to lead an exploratory trip to Nedjo, Ethiopia to provide medical and surgical care to both adults and children. She was previously an associate professor of ophthalmology and director of the Fellowship Research Program in the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. There, she developed and led a program called the Surgical Humanitarian Outreach Center which provided finding for surgical outreach to the Joseph E. Robert, Jr. Center for Surgical Care and the Division of Anesthesia to teach surgical training in developing countries.   

 

Sterling National Bank Takes on New Members

On July 20, Sterling National Bank announced four new team members for their New York, Westchester, and New Jersey markets. The Commercial Banking and Commercial Finance units in Sterling’s New York Metro market welcomed Paul Keshian and Jeffery Ackerman. Keshian had filled the role of Senior Managing director and Senior Vice President. He is responsible for commercial real estate and multifamily relations. His most recent job was with Santander Bank as Vice President. Ackerman, who was also previously employed by Santander Bank, is on as Managing Director and Vice President with a focus on the middle market commercial loans and deposit relationships. Steven Silverberg joins the Westchester market as the new Managing Director and Vice President. His responsibilities include managing commercial loan and deposit relationships. Silverberg previously worked for Customers Bank. The New Jersey market is welcoming James Meicke as Managing Director and Vice President from Amboy Bank. His focus is on commercial real estate financing opportunities.

 

CareMount Medical Appoints New Directors to Population Health Department

CareMount Medical recently hired two new directors to its Population Health Department. Jessica Klarl took the position of Director of Quality and Matthew Kamen was named as the Director of Strategic Analytics and Development. In Klarl’s new position, she will be working with physicians to select quality measures across specialties. She is expected to oversee the development and dissemination of quality reports and support clinical quality initiatives and seek to maximize revenue across the CareMount ACO and payor contracts. Before joining CareMount, Klarl was the Director of Quality at Stamford Health Medical Group. Kamen will be responsible for expanding value-based care capabilities and formulation of population health strategies in order to maximize the health of CareMount Medical’s patients. He will lead and perform management duties of CareMount Medical’s government programs. Kamen’s previous work included his position as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Value-Based Payment Innovation at WellCare Health Plans, Inc..

 

Million Hires New General Manager

With 20 years of customer service experience, Lauren Rones Payne was recently hired as General Manager of Million Air White Plains at Westchester County Airport. Although new to aviation, Rones-Payne has experience with customer service in the luxury fashion industry. She most recently worked as the General Brand Manager for Gucci. She also had experience working for Nordstrom in customer service and human resources. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology. “Lauren’s work with high-end clientele and her familiarity with Westchester and the surrounding area made her the perfect fit for the position,” says Roger Woolsey, CEO of Million Air.

 

Special Properties Real Estate Services Gets a New Regional VP

Earlier this month, Andrew Emery started his position as Regional Vice President for Special Properties Real Estate Services for Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties. Emery’s role in this regional affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate will lead brokerage expansion into a new market and oversee the brokerage business throughout the three counties in New York. He studied for his license at the National Association of Realtors’ and has more than 30 years of industry experience. Emery has a background in sales, management, and executive leadership to Special Properties. “

 

Richard Ranges appointed General Manager of ‘Simon’ at The Westchester

Richard Ranges recently began work as the new General Manager of The Westchester, operated by the global real estate company, Simon. There, he will oversee the mall’s operations, leasing, security, marketing, and budget funds. Along with this, he will lead a team who will create and enhance customer-shopping experience. Ranges began his career as Buyer at Macy’s. Since then, he has held leadership positions at several department stores. Prior to this position at The Westchester in White Plains, Ranges was the Vice President General Manager of Bloomingdales at Roosevelt Field in Garden City, NY.

 

Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty Names Larchmont Brokerage Manager

Earlier this month, Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Reality announced the promotion of Jane Murray from the brokerage’s assistant manager, to the new brokerage manager. She started with Larchmont as a sales associate and has more than 14 years of real estate experience in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, and Pelham. For five consecutive years, Murray has been recognized as a Westchester Five Star agent.

 

Nicholas & Lence Communications Welcomes Chief Strategy Officer and SVP of Business Development

New York-based public relations firm Nicholas & Lence Communications announced last month that Larry Gottlieb will be filling the dual roles of Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President of Business Development at the firm. Gottlieb has spent the past five years as CEO and President of the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation and, in his new role, will concentrate on expanding NLC’s strategic communications and government affairs advisory capabilities and spearheading new outreach efforts. “This is an exciting time for our firm, and we are thrilled to have Larry join our team to bring his considerable knowledge and experience from both the public and private sectors to our agency, as we continue to expand Nicholas & Lence Communications,” says CEO Cristyne Nicholas in a statement.
