White Plains Hospital Opens Medical/Wellness Center in Armonk

White Plains Hospital is now offering urgent care. Earlier this week, the hospital opened its urgent care center in Armonk, NY, making it the first hospital in Westchester County to own and operate an urgent care center. The 24,000-square-foot facility, officially called White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness, also offers primary care and other services, including pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, endocrinology, and specialty surgical consultations, as well as laboratory services and a physical therapy space. It also has a diagnostic imaging center (with 3D mammography, CT, MRI), which stays open as late as the urgent care clinic does—11pm on weekdays, and 9pm on weekends. The clinic is overseen by the director of the hospital’s emergency department, Rafael Torres, MD. The Hospital marked the occasion with an open house for the community and ribbon cutting ceremony attended by regional business leaders and elected officials. “We have been a trusted provider of quality health services for residents of northern Westchester for years,” White Plains Hospital President and CEO Susan Fox said, “and we are pleased to now make many of those exceptional services available closer to home for this community.”

Dr. Laura Forese of NewYork-Presbyterian Offers Insights on Healthcare Leadership

More than 100 business and healthcare professionals were on hand earlier this month to hear Laura L. Forese, MD, MPH, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian, discuss healthcare leadership in Westchester at The Business Council of Westchester’s First Niagara Leadership Conversations program. During a 45-minute interview led by BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon, Dr. Forese spoke of NewYork-Presbyterian’s expansion in the county and the importance of bringing world-class healthcare to Westchester. (NewYork-Presbyterian recently added two community hospitals in Westchester, NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor and NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville.) Citing Westchester’s wealth of resources and its patients’ demand for high quality and compassionate healthcare, Dr. Forese affirmed the hospital network’s commitment to the county. “There are so many resources here. It’s an opportunity for us to partner where many of our patients live and work. It’s an area where you have wonderful partnerships and resources in technology and education,” she said. Dr. Forese also emphasized the importance of a personal touch in engaging with patients and inspiring confidence and trust among consumers. “The culture of the organization is not the bricks and mortar. It’s the people working there. You need people who are comfortable with technology at all levels, but if patients don’t feel like we’re connecting with them, they’ll leave. Many people we hire come from the hospitality industry, because they understand that we need to make that connection,” she said.

Morgan Stanley Hosts Youth Business Skills Case Study Competition

For the third year in a row, Morgan Stanley has teamed up with the African-American Men of Westchester (AAMW) to present the Youth Business Skills Case Study Competition.  The event, which took place at the firm’s Purchase campus on November 13, brought together local high school juniors and seniors to hone their problem solving and business analytical skills. “The Business Skills Case Study Competition is designed to present high school students with real life problems that businesses face daily,” said Luvaghn Brown, co-chairman of the event. “Business school case studies present the student teams with topical problems, such as copyright infringement, social responsibility, human resource management and environmental issues. Working in a corporate setting to solve the case fosters collaboration and teamwork.” Approximately 150 students from 18 schools competed for three prizes, awarded for the best presentations on “Hydrofruit, Inc.: Ripe for Harvest or Rotten Tomato?” a case study from The University of Virginia Darden School of Business. Ardsley High School won the competition, followed by two Yonkers schools (Yonkers Montessori in 2nd place and Saunders Trade and Technical School in 3rd ).
