Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano toured Ridge Hill Shopping Center in Yonkers this week to view updates the mall recently made to make the shopping destination safer for all patrons through the ongoing pandemic.

“Ridge Hill is a staple to our local economy and I am thrilled to see its reimagined look and feel as Yonkers gets back to business,” says Spano. “Through smart and safe measures, Ridge Hill will once again provide an oasis for those looking to shop and reconnect to our community.”

The biggest change at Ridge Hill, which is located off Interstate 87, is the conversion of Market Street into a walkway for pedestrians. This alteration provides space for guests to walk around and shop while social distancing.

“We decided to focus on enhancing our outdoor environment by opening up Market Street to pedestrians, bringing in new seating options, and incorporating art installations into our surroundings,” says Steve Roche, General Manager at Ridge Hill.

In order to serve more guests while maintaining social distance, restaurants have also been allowed to spread out onto sidewalks and streets. John Racanelli, Owner of First Generation Hospitality Group which includes Pizza & Brew and Via Forno Wood Fired Pizza & Vinoteca in Scarsdale and Public Pizza Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar at Ridge Hill, says that pizza and wine are ready to be served at newly opened Public Pizza. “We are thrilled to be welcoming back guests to dine both inside and outside with all the proper social distancing measures in place.” He adds, “It’s great that Ridge Hill opened up Market Street to pedestrians, it allows us to spread out and serve more customers while keeping everyone’s safety in mind.”

Other fun things patrons can look forward to this summer include Ridge Hill’s Movie Monday series, where the mall will be hosting drive-in films in the parking lot behind Dick’s Sporting Goods, beginning July 20.

Indoor malls in Westchester were permitted to reopen to the public starting July 10 as part of the Phase Four reopening process, provided they possess or install high-MERV HVAC air systems. Entirely outdoor shopping centers like Ridge Hill, however, have been allowed to resume pick-up and limited capacity indoor shopping since last month.
