It’s no secret that there are a ton of top-tier senior living options in Westchester County. Now, a new opening in New Rochelle adds yet another boutique experience to the mix.
Monarch Coopers Corner, a new 72-bed senior living facility in New Rochelle, is now in the final stages of a lengthy construction process that saw many delays and setbacks. The facility on Wilmot Road in New Rochelle was first proposed nearly five years ago, but community pushback and the pandemic made progress difficult.
Fortunately, the project is on track for completion in the fall of this year, and the leasing gallery at 11 Mill Road, also in New Rochelle, is officially open for any prospective residents.
Half of Monarch Coopers Corner will be dedicated to a boutique assisted living experience, There will be a pub, juice bar, dog park, rooftop garden, and other fresh amenities rarely seen in a standard senior living center.
The top floor of the residence will have facilities for memory loss care and patients suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia.
“Our goal is to create a wellness ecosystem that enhances New Rochelle and the southern Westchester County region, with everyone here and the greater community around us contributing to and benefiting from each other,” says William Crawford, executive director of Monarch Coopers Corner. “A key part of that is creating physical spaces and programs that encourage engagement and interaction.”
Wilmot Road in New Rochelle is just off exit 17 of the Hutchinson River Parkway and is in convenient proximity to a number of restaurants, supermarkets, and other community institutions.
Monarch Communities, a Maryland-based developer and senior living manager, is spearheading the project, along with capital investment from Welltower, an Ohio-based real estate investment firm. Monarch Communities already operates a number of senior living facilities up and down the East Coast.
Early opposition to the project in New Rochelle hinged around increased traffic in the area and the disruptions a facility of Monarch Coopers Corner would bring, but since construction began there has been little in the way of dissent and, now that leasing has begun, the facility is on its way to becoming a valuable and essential part of the New Rochelle community.
