The Skincare Tips Men Need, According to a Westchester Expert

Want to up your skincare routine but don't know where to start? The founder of Dr. Liv's Rejuv shares four tips to help you get glowing.

Looking to take better care of your skin but not sure where to start? No worries. We asked Dr. Liviu B. Saimovici, a board-certified physician, member of the Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Staff, and creator of skincare line Dr. Liv’s Rejuv, to give us the lowdown on how guys can keep their skin in tip-top shape.

“For those patients looking to take an active role in their skincare routines, I recommend a daily four-step routine,” explains Saimovici. Below, he outlines his go-to plan for guys seeking great skin.

1. Cleanse the skin morning and night. Not washing your face can lead to the build up of dirt and oils, which can cause acne and even accelerates aging.

2. Treat! For those men looking to keep their skin healthy, hydrated, and wrinkle-free, look for products that contain Retinol, vitamin C and/or coenzyme Q10. These ingredients visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles through increased cellular turnover and promote healthy, more youthful-looking skin.

3. I consider this next step to be the added skin boost everyone needs: topical hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a gooey substance that is naturally produced by your body. Its main function is to help your skin retain moisture. When applied to the skin, it can reduce wrinkles and skin redness.

4. And finally, moisturize. As I mentioned above, your daytime moisturizer should include SPF, and your nighttime one should be sufficiently hydrating. Look for ingredients like vitamin E and peptides. Your skin repairs itself while you sleep, so moisturizers with these ingredients nourish, add moisture, and aid in cell renewal.

Shun the Sun

“My number-one tip for my patients, especially those who are resistant to follow a complete skincare routine, both male and female, is to apply SPF every day,” notes Saimovici. “Aside from the antiaging benefits of protecting your skin, the buildup of sun damage over time can lead to skin cancer. The SPF we sell in office, which is our most requested product, combines the power of an antiaging moisturizer with a broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 40.”
