In 2025, Westchester residents can expect to see a new, state-of-the-art residential building emerge where the shuttered White Plains Mall used to stand. Following the recent groundbreaking in White Plains, Westchester magazine looked at the breakdown of the building process and what locals and future residents can anticipate. For starters, the four residential buildings will feature amenities such as a pool, game rooms, fitness studios, outdoor terraces, and much more.
The developer company, RXR, and The Cappelli Organization are starting construction on their mall-to-housing conversion project that will boast a total of 860 rental units. The project will take over the place where the White Plains Mall, which first opened its doors back in 1972, stood. The mall building, which was a retail store graveyard, was demolished earlier this year in August. RXR successfully closed on the land to begin the ground-up construction, giving a new life to this Westchester space.
The property will be transformed into four mixed-income, multi-family buildings. The project, referred to as Hamilton Green, will start to emerge as early as 2025. The developers are breaking the construction up into two phases.
Phase I of getting the Hamilton Green property operating is to build two out of the four residential buildings. The first will be a 12-story building that’ll occupy 162 units and the second, a 25-story building, will house 308 units. In addition to the high-rises, a 515-space underground parking garage will also factor into the first stage.
Phase II will begin shortly after with an additional 390 residential units, 441 self-park parking spaces, and 45,000 sq ft of retail space.
“We are incredibly excited to break ground on the first phase of Hamilton Green. This is a unique opportunity to develop our first project in White Plains and convert a defunct shopping mall into a much-needed, 470-unit mixed-use residential community and commercial site,” says Joseph Graziose, Senior Vice President of Residential Development at RXR.
Hamilton Green will boast a contemporary design thanks to Lessard Design and MdeAS Architects, both award-winning global architecture and interior design firms.
“The Hamilton Green development will be a terrific addition to our portfolio in Westchester County and deserving of its place within the vibrant White Plains downtown district,” says Louis Cappelli, Founder of The Cappelli Organization.
