Learn Branding Secrets from Richard Branson’s Former VP of Branding

Richard Branson’s former VP of Branding, Julie Cottineau, is sharing what she learned from her time at Virgin Group North America at the April 23 meeting of the YONY/Rivertowns Creative Meetup. Cottineau, a Dobbs Ferry resident who is founder and CEO of Brand Twist consultancy and Brand School Online, will present

5 key things she learned from Richard Branson and how we can apply them to our own brands. The event will explore such questions as What is your personal brand?  Is your company a brand or a commodity?  What are the brands of the communities we live in?  How can we build and improve our brand identities? Be “In The Company of Women” At YWCA’s Annual Luncheon

The YWCA’s sixth-annual benefit luncheon, “In the Company of Women,” will take place on May 9, 2014 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Hilton Westchester. The event, which is hosted by the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester and expected to draw some 600 people, will honor Ruth Mahoney, President KeyBank Hudson Valley/Metro NY District as Corporate Champion; Kevin Plunkett, Westchester Deputy County Executive the Community Champion; and E. Barbara Wiggins, retired Lt. Colonel, US Army as the YWCA spirit Award Champion. Barbara Corcoran Will Headline Grow 2.0 Conference

Barbara Corcoran—real estate mogul and one of the “sharks” on ABC TV’s popular show Shark Tank—will kick off this year’s Westchester Community College – Gateway to Entrepreneurship’s GROW Conference as keynote speaker at the KeyBank and Business Council of Westchester Speaker Series. The second annual conference, titled “GROW 2.0,”aims to unite local professionals through networking, mentoring business development and strategy. Breakout sessions, led by local and national business leaders, include: “HR Essentials: The Art & Science of Attracting, Developing & Recruiting Talent,” “How to Think Like a CFO,” “The Art of Mingling & Networking,” and “The Home Office: Haven or Hell.” Small business owners will also have a chance to pitch their idea to a panel of successful entrepreneurs and investors for feedback as part of the conference’s investor pitch session.

HealthTech ’14 To Spotlight Westchester’s Growing Health Tech Sector

To call attention to Westchester’s growing health tech sector, the Westchester County Association (WCA) and its economic development arm, The BLUEPRINT for Westchester, have organized HealthTech ’14: Fueling Innovation in Westchester. The two-day conference, held May 7 – 8 at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Tarrytown, features leading innovators in biotech, medtech, and health tech, and is attracting entrepreneurs, investment bankers, venture capitalists, technologists, and others. Day One is geared toward entrepreneurs, with the “Entrepreneurs’ Edge, ” panel discussion with national experts in startup law, banking, crowdfunding, and venture capital; followed by “Pitch to the Pros,” an opportunity for companies to present their ideas to a panel of judges. The winner will receive a $10K cash grant and automatic acceptance into Westchester’s BLUEPRINT Accelerator Network. Day Two includes an in-depth look at “IBM Watson and the Future of Medicine” and a compelling keynote address by Steven Safyer, MD, the CEO of Montefiore Health System.
