BSpa’s New Hair Removal Technique: Sugar Paste

Here’s a sweet approach to hair removal: sugar paste. Diane Seo, owner of BSpa (1031 Boston Post Rd, Rye 914-921-0880; bspasalon.com) tells us why. “Our formulas are 100-percent natural, with no chemical additives, no wax resins, and no essential oils,” she says, noting that the sugar is so pure you can actually eat it. With the Alexandria technique the spa uses, the sugar paste doesn’t stick to live skin cells, so it only exfoliates the dead ones, reducing the ouch factor on delicate skin tissue areas. The paste method is more hygienic than waxing, because bacteria can’t grow in high concentrations of sugar. Plus, because the paste is water-soluble, it can’t damage or stain clothing, and, as it is applied lukewarm, there is no danger of burning skin. “When the sugar paste is massaged onto the skin, it allows the paste to seep into the follicles, which, in turn, allows the body hair to slide out more comfortably, for a complete extraction without body-hair breakage,” Seo explains. “Most clients see an immediate improvement after the first or second sugaring, in body-hair refinement and, in many cases, diminishment.”
