We knew back in June—when we practically begged you to nominate your favorite local goods-producer into the 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Awards—that Westchester had what it would take to come out on top amongst thousands of outstanding independent craftspeople and small-business owners from all 50 states. Still, we can’t contain our excitement over the October 17 announcement that Clark’s Botanicals, a Bronxville-based maker of sensitive skincare products, took one of the 10 winning spots out of a total 3,259 entrants.
Handpicked by Martha Stewart and a panel of judges for her American Made program, Clark’s Botanicals owner Francesco Clark has been recognized in the contest’s Style category, and will formally be lauded at the 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Summit—a networking event for creative makers and lecture series featuring leaders and innovators in the industry—November 7 and 8 at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s HQ in New York City. (Buy tickets here.)
Additionally, Clark’s win includes a $10,000 cash prize, a trip for two to the Summit (we’re guessing his travel accommodations won’t require airfare, but will still beat Metro-North), a feature on MarthaStewart.com, PR and marketing support to help grow his business, and coverage in the December issue of Martha Stewart Living.
Read about Clark and his story, which includes how an inability to sweat after a spinal-cord injury led to problem skin; the use of a precious essential oil in his skin-balancing products; and his connection with the Christopher Reeve Foundation, on the American Made site.
