Bowl With It

Bowls abound at cafés these days. The pink-hued pitaya bowl’s namesake fruit, also known as dragon fruit, is low-calorie and full of fiber, vitamins B and C, iron, calcium, and phosphorus. At Trailside Cafe in Yorktown Heights, the bowl also includes mango, pineapple, coconut milk, and coconut water. Or, choose an açai bowl with your choice of four toppings, including berries, bananas, peanut butter, honey, chocolate drizzle (yay!), granola, and coconut flakes. At only 25 cents for additional toppings, it’s pretty healthy for your budget, too.

PopoJito in Scarsdale has the Popo Bowl with quinoa, charred snap peas, crunchy veggies, kale, and your choice of protein like mezcal-lime chicken or cilantro-rubbed shrimp. For vegans, there’s also charred Brussels sprouts or caramelized cauliflower topped with avocado mousse and a tofu-lime crema.

Also in Scarsdale, Eastchester Fish Market’s tuna poke bowl is a stunner, with sushi-grade ahi tuna, sticky rice, seaweed salad, fish roe, avocado, cucumber, sesame seeds, pickled ginger, and a dollop of wasabi, all topped with a nest of crispy shallots.
