Book It! Thrilling Local Novels.

I don’t know why people only put together summer reading lists—it’s this time of year, when the weather report is dismal for as far as the eye can see—that makes me want to hole up with a good book. Lucky for you, your neighbors have been hard at work writing some of the summer-type quick, entertaining reads for you. Let’s take a look at some new and upcoming titles:

Live to Tell by Wendy Corsi Staub
This thriller takes place in the suburbs of NYC—sound familiar? Hopefully, you’ll only be able to relate to the superficial aspects of the story, since the rest of it involves a missing husband in a mystery that kicks off a trilogy of suspenseful novels. (The other two titles? Scared to Death and Hell to Pay. Sounds ominous.)

Hand of Fate by Lis Wiehl with April Henry
Wiehl is a Westchester trial lawyer who, according to her bio, has never lost a case—and probably found tons of inspiration in the courtroom. Her thriller, set in Portland instead of Westchester, involves the murder of an outspoken radio talk show host and a journalist trying to crack the case.

And we don’t want to leave out the little ones! They may not be in the mood for grisly mysteries, they like to read, too. Some might be interested in this upcoming title:

Little Diva by LaChanze and illustrated by Brian Pinkney
Mount Vernon’s LaChanze won the Tony for her performance in The Color Purple, so she might have run across a few divas in her day. Her charming children’s book is about a young girl, Nena, whose training to be a Broadway star—just like her mom.
