In the male-dominated world of Big Pharma, Beth Levine takes pride in being a female leader. But, she says, “I don’t spend a lot of time thinking along gender lines. I prefer to be valued based on what I bring to the table.” As senior vice president, associate general counsel and chief compliance officer at Regeneron, Levine says her job is “largely relational. It’s about building and sustaining high-value relationships that add to the credibility we need to provide advice and counsel from a place of trust.”
Since joining Regeneron in 2008, Levine has brought a strong work ethic and moral code to a compliance team that manages all of the company’s policy development, communication and training, transparency reporting, compliance monitoring, investigations, and special projects. As associate general counsel, she heads a legal group charged with providing advice and counsel to all aspects of the business. To Levine, “We all share the individual responsibility of acting with the utmost ethical integrity, so we can collectively continue to be an industry leader and improve patients’ lives.”
“[At Regeneron], we talk a lot about ‘doing it right’ and ‘doing it with integrity’ — [and Beth] truly means it,” says Michelle Murphy, Regeneron’s director of compliance. “She is one of those people who really walks the walk.”
