When Niche recently released its 2023 list of the best places to live in New York State, we were more than a little excited to see if any Westchester spots made the lineup. (Spoiler alert: they did.) With quaint boutiques, elevated dining experiences, and an ideal commute to Manhattan, Westchester has it all. A few Westchester towns even ranked on the list of the best places to live in the country!

Hartsdale – 7
As the top-ranking locale in Westchester, Hartsdale earns the number seven spot for best places to live in New York. Needless to say, it’s making Westchesterites proud! If you’re looking to grab a bite in Hartsdale, you can’t go wrong with VEGA, a hip cantina dishing out Mexican cuisine. Hartsdale is also home to the oldest operating, nationally ranked pet burial grounds, the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery. Hartsdale ranked number 63 on the best places to live in America list.
Ardsley – 11
This vibrant Westchester village came in at number 11 on Niche’s list. The 1.3-square-mile village is stocked with parks, local shops, and restaurants. Ardsley ranked number 84 on the list of best places to live in the country.

Irvington – 39
With historic attractions like The Armour-Stiner Octagon House and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, this river town ranked number 39. The city is a hub for dining, with local favorites such as MP Taverna and Red Hat on the River on the restaurant roster.

Armonk – 54
Armonk is a walkable hamlet made up of mom-and-pop shops. It ranked number 54 on Niche’s list. Armonk has garnered recognition for its growing food scene. Restaurants that stand out are the Moderne Barn, The Beehive, and Fortina, to name a few.
Hastings-on-Hudson – 59
This village, located just 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan, ranked 59 among the best places to live in New York. Hastings-on-Hudson boasts picturesque views of the river and features dozens of hidden hiking trails. The town has served as the filming location for many well-known movies, such as The Girl on the Train.

Bronxville – 60
Bronxville is number 60 on Niche’s list of the best places to live in New York. Many of the residents in this quaint village live within walking distance of the Metro-North train station.
Scarsdale – 72
Scarsdale, which ranks number 72, is home to many high-end boutiques and fine dining options. The 808 Bistro, Chat, and Wood & Fire call this town home. Plus, the public schools are highly ranked.
Rye – 77
The home of Rye Playland ranks at number 77. This city, located along the Long Island Sound, was recently named one of the most expensive zip codes in 2022 by PropertyShark. There are plenty of parks, coffee shops, and swoon-worthy restaurants in Rye.
