Chef Brian MacMenamin is no stranger to Westchester. He was behind the Larchmont Avenue Oyster House, New Rochelle’s Post Road Ale House, and MacMenamin’s Grill. But with Club Car, his debut in Mamaroneck’s newly restored, circa-1888 train station, he’s topped them all: MacMenamin is back, and bigger than ever.
From the Metro-North parking lot, tall doors off the swing open to reveal a glittering scene—a vast interior with soaring tin ceiling, grand restored fireplace, and sparkly chandeliers. Once snug by the fire in a cozy sofa nook or at the thronged bar, you’ll find it hard not to think that Club Car is the most happening commuter scene in Westchester since the fictional days of Mad Men. Look for stylish takes on old-fashioned crowd pleasers, like the crab soup and raw oysters, followed by big, juicy burgers and T-bone steaks au jus with mashed potatoes. To wash it all down, don’t miss big-boy drinks like Manhattans, or dip from the long and gently priced wine list. In fact, we worry for Mamaroneck commuters: Evenings at Club Car will become as non-negotiable as morning stops for coffee.
