Yes, everyone knows about Crabtree’s Kittle House, The Restaurant, but not many think of Crabtree’s Kittle House, The Bar. As charming and comfortable as the dining rooms are, the Tap Room is actually one of the most appealing bars in Westchester, with a winning list of wines and cocktails (if you don’t know about the restaurant’s famed wine list, skip reading this now and go directly to its website; we’ll wait…), as well as a fascinating history. According to owner John Crabtree, the wood bar is almost 200 years old and comes from England. The story goes that Fanny Brice, the vaudeville star who headlined in the Ziegfeld Follies, saw the bar at a British inn and loved it so much, she had it shipped to Dutch Schultz, the 1920s-era New York gangster who owned a speakeasy (among other crime-related endeavors). The tendency to please continues, meaning you’ll have no trouble finding a wine or rare spirit to accompany tempting appetizers. Even better: The veteran bartenders are spot on with recommendations.
Happy Hour: No, but there is a separate Tap Room menu.
