Bernie Sanders Speaking Out For Teachout in New Paltz

Here’s how to RSVP and see the Vermont Senator support a Hudson Valley candidate

Vermont Senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is back on the road, this time in support of Democratic congressional candidate Zephyr Teachout at her Friday morning rally in New Paltz, taking place at 11 am in the village’s Hasbrouck Park.

While no ticket purchase is required, the Teachout campaign anticipates a large turnout and requests that all attendees RSVP to the event online. It’s probably prudent, given that Sanders’ last Hudson Valley appearance at Marist College in April drew more than 4,000 onlookers.

Teachout, a Vermont native and current Clinton homeowner and Fordham University Law School professor, is running for the 19th Congressional District seat against Republican John Faso of Kinderhook. The district includes all of Ulster, Columbia, and Greene counties, and most of Dutchess. Sanders, it’s worth noting, was the preferred Democratic presidential candidate in all four counties during his New York State primary campaign opposing Hillary Clinton.

In a statement, Sanders lauded Teachout’s qualifications, remarking that, “Zephyr literally wrote the book on political corruption,” and that she’s “worked hand-in-hand with anti-fracking activists,” in addition to having “led organizations to fight the influence of money in politics and to break up the banks too.”

So for Bernie-or-bust Westchesterites still lamenting the iconoclast’s defeat, here’s your chance to re-experience the movement close to home.
