I’ve hardly been able to contain my excitement for our annual Spring Fashion feature to hit mailboxes (look for the April issue on newsstands!). Inside: 12 pages of glorious, warm-weather wardrobe must-haves, exclusive style advice from our most trusted experts, and, of course, an eight-page spread of the season’s top trends, modeled by beauties Raylane and Gintare, which we had a ball shooting at ArtsWestchester’s building in downtown White Plains (make sure to read all about the shoot and location in the print story).
As any nosy beauty obsessive would, I jumped on the opportunity to observe, and grill, the hair and makeup team on all the on-set mastery. Stylist Omar Roth, co-founder of Salon O, described the look—disheveled, teased height; a faux-hawk/pony; etc.—as “unkempt chic,” messy with a Girl With the Dragon Tattoo current run through it.
Styling assistant Conor, meanwhile, convinced me to cut my mid-back-length up to the collarbone, and explained choosing his hairdryer for its minimal weight. On their dressing table: Kérastase products and both hot and Velcro medium-to-large rollers for creating volume at the crown.
Inspired by the punchier trends of the moment—athletic wear! pop art! global!—makeup artist Liz Olivier started with a neutral, fresh base, perfecting skin while maintaining a youthful, dewy surface.
Then came the “punch.” To play up a full, oversized-floral-print maxi skirt, she mixed a perfect orange-y coral lip that picked up the petals of the same shade. She’s also loving, she said, a bright purple pop as seen in fashion-y looks as of late, high-patent finishes, and monochrome palettes.
While MAC products dominated her spread, it was nice to see some drugstore-brand lipsticks (including several also-hot-now bright pinks) in the mix of her overflowing travel case.
