A new show is in town, and Westchester Magazine got a sneak peek. From Sept 18-20, Circus Latino! is on the grounds of Sleepy Hollow’s Edge-on-Hudson (the former General Motors site) featuring performers from Westchester Circus Arts, live music by South American artists and more.
Peter Johnson, vice president of Edge-On-Hudson, welcomed Westchester Magazine and others to join him and Circus Latino! for a behind-the-scenes tour of the new family-friendly show.
When you enter the Circus Latino! grounds in Sleepy Hollow’s Edge-on-Hudson, you are greeted by a bright, vibrant tent, the smell of buttery popcorn, and views of men and women carrying out a series of acrobatic feats. That may sound like the sights and smells of any circus setting, but as you enter further into Circus Latino!, it’s clear the show is anything but your average peanuts-and-elephants circus.
The show will provide several live performances of Ecuadorian and Brazilian music. Each show will be a part of a goal for organizers: to provide a peek into multiple Latin American cultures for the 5,000 people expected to attend shows this weekend. Upon arrival, visitors can expect to walk down a red carpet and enter into a Latin American-themed world. Beyond the music and vibe there is, of course, the acrobatics. Expect several Circus Latino! shows with stunts that will leave you wondering how the performers pulled it off. Then even when it’s over, you can find out… well, sort of. The circus will allow guests the opportunity to try their own trapeze acts before or after the show, in case you think you’ve got the chops to re-enact what you just saw (or just want to try something new). Amateur trapeze attempts are by appointment only, courtesy of Westchester Circus Arts.
