Beauty Tips for Your Wedding

For that look of love

Expert Tips
We asked beauty biz pros for their best wedding hair and makeup tips:

“Many brides make the mistake of buying their headpiece first and then discovering that the styles that must be used with the particular piece are not the most flattering. Instead, have your hair consultation first so you can choose a hairstyle that is best for your facial features, gown, and personal style and then select a headpiece to work with the desired look. Also, on your wedding day, use oil-blotting tissues to control the shine on your face instead of powder, which can look heavy and unnatural. Finally, always blot away wedding day tears (of joy!) with a finger or tissue to avoid smudging the makeup. Never wipe!”

“Have your stylist plan for two different looks—one for great weather and one for rain or snow, so you don’t have to improvise at the last minute in case of bad weather. Of course, when both styles look great, you might not be able to choose between the two—but that’s a good problem to have.”

“White has a tendency to wash out your complexion, so wear white to your makeup trial to ensure a proper blush. And for brides who say ‘I just want to look like myself,’ a makeup artist’s job is to make you look like you—only you getting married! Your wedding makeup needs to be special; everything about you should be
glowing. This is not the
time for a matte finish.”

“Our number-one bestselling product is our invisible blotting powder that a bride can use throughout the day to tone down any shine without
disturbing the makeup.”

“Don’t forget the guys. In addition to taking care of the bridal party, we have a men’s spa package that includes a one-hour sports massage, facial, and haircut. It makes their skin look great, and it’s also very relaxing.”

In the Pink
You’ll catch the scent of fresh fruit, a hint of French pastry, and a host of exotic flowers in the new Hanae Mori No. 7 perfume, the last in a limited-edition series. Available at Nordstrom (shop.nordstrom.com), Bloomingdale’s (bloomingdales.com), Macy’s (macys.com), and Neiman Marcus (neimanmarcus.com), $95 for 3.4 oz.

Magic Trick
Guerlain’s new liquid lipstick, Rouge G L’Extrait, is the best of both worlds. It goes on with the ease of a gloss, then dries to a matte finish that lasts for hours. Available in seven sexy shades, each hidden in a clever case that twists open to reveal a mirror for discreet touch-ups. Available at Neiman Marcus (neimanmarcus.com) for $48.

Crystal Eyes
Want your lashes to really stand out? Consider adding a sparkling Swarovski crystal or two—or more—to your lashes. Goddess Lashes (goddesslashes.com) offers 100-percent mink false eyelashes with crystals dotted along the lash line. You can wear them up to 25 times; prices range from $150 to $250, depending on length and embellishment. If falsies aren’t your style, extensions can give you long, lush lashes that will last for weeks and all the sparkle you desire at The Salon de Lash (2 Spencer Pl, Scarsdale 914-472-7858; salondelash.com). Prices start at $160 for mink, $180 for silk; retouches start at $40; crystals are $5 each.
