This Fun and Functional Bag Will Make Your Life So Much Easier

With back-to-school around the corner, Chappaqua resident Sloane Gibney Grossberg’s bag line combines practicality and style.

Chappaqua resident Sloane Gibney Grossberg’s shortyLOVE bag line combines practicality and style into one chic accessory.

As mini bags surge in popularity (can your cell phone even fit in some?), are larger compartmental bags passé?

Likely not. Chappaqua’s Sloane Gibney Grossberg designed her own version of a smartly designed practical purse — in styles like crossbody, backpack, and messenger — perfect for a day at the office, travel, or just for errands around town. Her line of bags is called shortyLOVE — cutely named after her dog, Shorty. This e-commerce exclusive brand offers a small collection that can fit your phone (and many other essentials) neatly. One bag, the Boxer bag is marketed as two bags in one, and can function as either a backpack or a shoulder bag.

Grossberg, who had experience in the fashion industry prior to creating her own line out of her home (she was the creative director at Marc Jacobs for more than a decade), wanted to ensure that her products were high quality and would last more than a season. The bags are made from durable nylon and are versatile for day-to-day wear. “You don’t have to think about taking the bag anywhere — you want to go to the gym or just want to run around — you don’t have to change out your bags for whatever you are doing. Just have one of these, and it just does everything,” Grossberg says.

Creating her collection, which she started in 2017, was a family affair. While her husband helps with the technical aspects of the business, her kids helped her choose colors and cut of the designs. Each bag comes in black, navy, or camouflage (which is on trend this season). One bag, the Wonder, also comes in bright red, with a light pink interior.

Her collection is designed with Westchester’s career women and moms in mind. “I want to show the community and women like myself that I am a woman, living in Westchester, with a small business, making bags for us,” she says.

Grossberg will have a pop up shop for ShortyLOVE on September 12 and 13 at barre3 in Dobbs Ferry.
