Where to Shop in Westchester for Small Business Saturday

Here’s where you can keep your dollars in the community by supporting #ShopLocal in Westchester County this Small Business Saturday.

Additional reporting by Alaina Cintron

After what’s hopefully a serene and food-filled Thanksgiving, the mad commercial rush following the November holiday can sometimes feel overwhelming. Major retailers have been spilling out deals for over a week already, and digital door-busters preempt the need to roll out of bed at the crack of dawn on Black Friday morning. Moreover, local shops and community business development associations that have already pivoted to a strong online presence have found they’re now perfectly suited to digital events like #SmallBizSaturday and #CyberMonday.

Here are just a few of the places you can score some epic deals while keeping your dollars in the Westchester community.

Cross County Center

For a more traditional shopping experience, Cross County Shopping Center will kick off its holiday festivities with its annual outdoor skating rink ($10), Food Truck Market (a la carte), and 44-foot Christmas tree (which, by all accounts, has so far proven to be owl-free, unlike other famous trees that shall not be mentioned) this weekend, along with plenty of sales from the center’s resident merchants. Don’t forget to visit Santa and take a quick photo. Once you’re all tired out from a long day of shopping, relax for a bit as you take in the mall’s festive atmosphere.

The Jefferson Valley Mall

Since its rebranding as something of a community center, the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown has filled its storefronts with a plethora of local and independent retailers. Between gift shops, salons, and trendy dining spots like the Peekskill Brewery Pizza & Beer outpost, even longtime residents will be surprised by the new digs — and sales — on offer. This year, find a Holiday Pop Up Market in partnership with Westchester Blogger. Following Santa’s arrival, drop off the kids at the holiday party at PizZaZzles and go do your holiday shopping with over 20 special holiday vendors from which to choose.

Makers Market

Tarrytown’s annual Makers Market at Makers Central will have one-of-a-kind handcrafted gifts, local beer and whiskey tastings, small bites, and so much more. It’s a great chance to check out incredible artisanal pieces from local makers like “The Hot Potter” Connor McGinn.

Much Ado About Pelham

The Village of Pelham is home to tons of indie shops and cultural centers, so it’s no surprise it has a ton of #SmallBizSaturday events all on its own. First up, the Art Boutique Shop & Sip is opening on Small Business Saturday with activities, refreshments, and great artwork for sale. In addition, the Pelham Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Town of Pelham hosts a Winter Wonderland with an activity-packed Saturday from 12-5 p.m. The day starts off with pictures, horse carriage rides, and a holiday market filled with deals from Pelham businesses, followed by Santa’s arrival. At the gazebo, find a green screen winter wonderland photo experience, then join in on more activities, like the bouncy house, face painting, or the petting zoo. End the day with the tree lighting ceremony and enjoy the last night of outdoor dining for dinner.

Ossining Scavenger Hunt

Join the small businesses scavenger hunt while you shop on Saturday. Participate by picking up a card at any of the businesses starting on November 15. Make a purchase, try a service, or take a selfie at the businesses, then post it using the hashtag #OssiningSmallBizSat22. After that, have someone at the business mark their initials on the corresponding card logo. For every five businesses you visit, you will qualify for a chance to win.  Once you have completed your sheet, drop it off at your last destination by November 29. One winner will be announced the week of December 5 and will win a basket of goodies donated by participating businesses.

Shop Small at the Flatiron

From 12-6 p.m., shop at three different places for Small Business Saturday. The Flat Iron Gallery offers fine art, jewelry, pottery, and more. Plus, check out artwork by Pine Orchard Studio and oil paintings, Christmas crafts, and gifts at Lavinia Wiggins Studio. Last but certainly not least, WinzigArt Studio tempts with fine art, ornaments, earrings, cards, and more.

Holiday Market

On November 25, the Peekskill Brewery holds its first-ever Blackout Friday & Holiday Market event. Blackout Friday is a day for drinking beer, raffles, and the unveiling of a new beer. On Saturday from 12-5 p.m., local vendors will celebrate the holiday season while selling handmade goodies. There will be raffles, giveaways, and drink specials as well.
