Salons and Barbershops Are Open — Here’s How They’re Staying Safe

Under Phase Two of New York State reopening guidelines, salons and barbershops are now opening their doors, after nearly three months of Westchesterites resorting to coloring their hair with self-dye kits, trimming their own bangs, or maybe just letting the roots grow out (hey, no one was seeing you anyway).

Now the professionals are ready to help fix any regrettable quarantine looks. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones who got an appointment in the first few days of opening, try one of these local salons which are working hard to service clients — while implementing new safety precautions and complying with state guidelines.

The Beauty Box

1005 Boston Post Rd, Rye
914.967.0373
The Beauty Box used quarantine to give this full-service luxury brand hair salon a makeover of its own. Repainted, refinished, and deep cleaned, they are ready to beautify their clients once again.
Safety Precautions: Initial opening will allow for a limited number of people in the salon at any given time (2-4 clients rather than the normal 12.) The Beauty Box is not taking walk-ins at this time. Salon staff have received training on disinfecting and will be tested every 14 days. Glass dividers have been installed, hand sanitizers will be available at the entrance and at each styling station, staff will wear fresh aprons for each client and wash hands before and after each interaction. Clients will be asked to remain outside until their stylist is ready for them. Upon entering the salon temperatures will be taken by contactless scanner. Guests won’t be permitted but children can and should be accompanied by an adult.
Hours: Currently extending hours to fit in as many appointments as possible. Approximately 8 a.m. to 8

Customers are asked to wait outside until the time of their appointment, and everyone must wear a face mask. Owner and barber Mark Young says if there is a gap, it is possible for a walk-in to fill it, but he recommends making an appointment.
