Loriet Sports Offers Style Options for the Westchester Tennis Player

Looking good on—and off—the court with the help of Mamaroneck’s Mehdy and Domenica

Want to look smashing while putting away that overhead? Check out Loriet Sports professional tennis apparel, founded by Mamaroneck couple Mehdy and Domenica Karbid in 2005. The pair met in college —Mehdy was a recruited tennis player—and Loriet began as a business school project. Shortly after its debut at a World Tennis Association event, Loriet signed its first professional player, American Meilen Tu. When less than a month later, Tu wore the label at the French Open, the Karbids knew their concept had legs. Indeed, by 2012, the company was doing about $600,000 annually in sales. Working from a home office, the Karbids design the line together and test it on local courts. A big trend? “Mixing bold colors, like a pop of orange or electric blue, with more muted grays or blues,” says Domenica. Favored by serious players for their sleek cuts and advanced performance fabric, the garments are made primarily of special synthetic blends that are fast-drying but very soft. The collection includes clothing and accessories for men, women, and children. Manufactured in the United States, Morocco, and China, and embroidered and silkscreened locally, pieces range from about $45 for shorts and skirts to $80 for warm-ups. Look for the brand in country-club pro shops or online at loriet.com.
