Finally, you might be hitting the beach this year for some R&R. Since summer 2021 is all about casual yet statement-making garb, a new bathing suit from inBodi Swimwear might fit the bill for those who are seashore-bound. An e-commerce business, inBodi Swimwear
offers unique separates and one-pieces in a variety of styles and cuts (cheeky bikinis, adjustable one-pieces, high-waisted bottoms, and playful tops.) The brand was founded by Yorktown Heights native Daniela Schiliro and her fellow FIT grad and friend Heather Kamback as a side hustle (Schiliro is an art director, and Kamack is a demand planner full-time). The two had wanted to create a swimwear brand that “celebrates all shapes and sizes. The name of the brand is a play on the word ‘embody.’ We wanted to embody all women, because everyone is beautiful in their own way,” says Schiliro. After COVID hit, the pair sought destinations they could drive to for inspiration for their brand, settling on South Carolina and Florida. They launched their second line, The Gulf Coast Collection, in March, after the successful debut of the Charleston Collection last year. The collections and their pieces are each inspired by their geographic namesakes — the Naples one-piece, the Folly bottom (after Folly Beach in South Carolina), and the Captiva top. The two 27-year-olds took advantage of the fact that many were at home last year, scrolling through social media, to hype up their new venture. They created TikTok videos that went viral, with more than 1 million views; as a result, some pieces sold out almost immediately. The suits are affordable (separates range from $49-$79, while one-pieces are roughly $109), ethically manufactured, and available in a range of fabrics, including recycled and sustainable materials. The duo are currently at the design board, planning their third collection.
