For radiant skin, JoAnna Kopczyk of Derma Glow Spa and Boutique in North Salem recommends mixing two egg whites and two tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt and applying the mixture to the face for 7 to 10 minutes. Wash with warm water, pat dry, and apply serum or moisturizer. “This mask is also great for hands,” Kopczyk says. “Before you apply it to your hands, exfoliate them with 1 cup of sugar and a half-cup of olive oil combined.”
Waxing 101
Get satiny-smooth legs in a snap.
“For best results make sure your hair is grown out to at least the length of an eyelash or a grain of rice before your appointment,” says Nikki Babian, hair-removal specialist at swanky Scarsdale boutique Spruce & Bond, which has a location in Scarsdale. “You want the wax to get a good grip on the hair.” And whatever you do, don’t wax if you are a retinol user. “Agents like retinol can thin out skin, and a layer of skin is likely to come off with the wax,” warns Babian. Ouch!
Finally, hold off on hitting that spin class right after your wax. “Excessive sweating can cause irritation or even infection, so wait at least 12 hours after your appointment before you work out,” advises Babian. Good excuse to binge-watch your favorite shows.
How to mimic the effect of eyeliner
“For mascara and liner in one, apply your mascara to the top lashes, starting at the root, and wiggle the wand through the ends,” says Westchester makeup artist Meredith Hayman (www.meredithhayman.com). “Starting at the root helps emphasize the lash line, to create the look of liner. After coating the top lashes, comb through them with a clean wand, to separate.”
